As our nation marks its 250th birthday, we are reminded that the American story has always been carried forward by people who chose courage over comfort, curiosity over certainty, and community over division. At The Patterson Foundation, we strengthen the efforts of people, organizations, and communities by focusing on shared aspirations, wide participation, and learning together.

In that spirit, we encourage you to attend and/or share within your networks an experience that speaks directly to this milestone moment in our country's history. This free event is fully underwritten by The Patterson Foundation (TPF).

Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass: A Walk to Respect is more than a theatrical performance. It is a living reminder that even in our most fractured eras Americans have found ways to bridge divides, listen deeply, and move forward together. Through the powerful words of Lincoln and Douglass, brought to life in a one-act play by award-winning playwright and TPF's very own Beth Duda, along with original spoken-word poetry by Cedric Hameed, this experience invites us to reflect on what it truly means to build understanding across differences. As we celebrate 250 years, this performance offers a timely and hopeful blueprint.

Why Attend:

  • High-quality, zero-cost professional theater
  • History that stays with you through the voices of Lincoln and Douglass
  • A model for better conversations rooted in courage, humility, and listening
